One of our customers reported the following:
"The gears we use the coatings on are a cross axis helical set like those used in automotive camshaft applications. We are coating hardened tool steel gears. The cross axis makes a rubbing friction verses a rolling friction. It is easy to get gear failure from slight/microscopic surface imperfections until the gears are "wornin". The coating allows these gears to properly seat against each other without any galling. We have also seen a reduction in gearbox temperature (15 degrees Fahrenheit) and have had no galling failures since using the coatings. These are high precision ground printing press gears and there has been little to no quality degradation from the coating."
